In the line of duty, Selma Police Officer C.C. Solomon, a 46-year-old Caucasian male, lost his life on November 25, 1946. The fatal encounter occurred at 1112 Morgan's Alley in Selma, Alabama, when Officer Solomon and his partner attempted to arrest a man in connection with a burglary.
During the attempt to take the suspect into custody at his residence, the man opened fire, fatally wounding Officer Solomon.
In the ensuing confrontation, Officer Solomon's partner returned fire, killing the suspect at the scene.
Officer Solomon had served with the Selma Police Department as a full-time officer for two and a half years, and had previously been a special officer for several years. He was survived by his wife and five children. His death is recorded as one of three line-of-duty deaths by gunfire in the history of the Selma Police Department.
