In the late summer of 2022, the life of 18-year-old Sean A. Wiggins was tragically cut short in Selma, Alabama. On the evening of Thursday, September 15, 2022, the young man was moments away from entering a local business when he sustained a fatal gunshot wound. This violent act marked the second homicide in Selma that week.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain largely unclear, and authorities have yet to publicly identify any suspects in connection with the murder.
The case remains an open and unsolved investigation. In an effort to generate new leads and bring justice for Sean and his family, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey issued a proclamation in April 2023 regarding the murder of the 18-year-old male. This official notice serves to bring renewed attention to the ongoing investigation and the search for the individual or individuals responsible for his death.
Public services were held to honor Sean's memory. A public viewing took place on Friday, September 23, 2022, followed by a memorial service on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. Despite the passage of time, the case remains an active investigation as law enforcement continues to seek information from the public that may lead to an arrest and conviction.
