In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 30, 2007, a violent encounter in the Third Street Tunnel in Washington, D.C., claimed the life of 26-year-old Anthony Carr. The Stafford, Virginia resident was a passenger in an Acura when the tragic events unfolded around 3:20 a.m. The incident is believed to have started as a road-rage dispute as the Acura and a late-model silver or gray Cadillac DeVille were both entering the tunnel.
According to police reports, the driver of the Acura sounded the horn, which was followed by the Cadillac pulling up alongside their vehicle. An occupant in the Cadillac then opened fire, striking Carr multiple times. After the shooting, someone in the Acura called 911 for assistance. The operator directed their vehicle to an exit ramp in Virginia, where they were met by law enforcement and emergency medical personnel.
Tragically, Anthony Carr showed no signs of life at the scene.
The assailants fled the scene in the Cadillac, which was described as having four occupants and possibly bearing Maryland license plates starting with the letter 'D'. The Metropolitan Police Department's Violent Crimes Branch is investigating the case as a homicide. Authorities have offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Anthony Carr's death. The case remains unsolved, with no arrests made or suspects publicly identified.
