On November 29, 2007, 21-year-old Lane Mitchell Smiley was fatally shot in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred in an alley behind the 100 block of 9th Avenue West in the East Thomas neighborhood. Smiley was found in his car, having sustained gunshot wounds.
