In the spring of 2018, the life of Darien Deon 'Dee' Haslip, a 24-year-old Black man, was tragically cut short in his Birmingham, Alabama, home. On the evening of April 22nd, a friend made a grim discovery, finding Haslip deceased inside his residence. Responding to the call at approximately 6:33 p.m., officers from the North Precinct arrived at the scene to find that Haslip had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
Investigators began the arduous process of piecing together the circumstances
that led to the young man's death. During their examination of the scene, they uncovered evidence of drug activity, which led them to consider a drug-related motive as a strong possibility in the homicide. The Birmingham Police Department launched a full investigation, conducting interviews and appealing to the public for any information that could shed light on the events of that day and lead to the identification of any potential suspects.
Known for his generous and kind nature, Darien Haslip was a 2011 graduate of Maranathan Academy. He had a passion for fashion and cars and was a loving father to his son, Destin Josiah Haslip. A week after his untimely death, on April 28, 2018, family and friends gathered to honor his memory at a memorial service. Despite the ongoing investigation and the authorities' efforts to generate leads, no arrests have been made in connection with Darien Haslip's murder. The case remains open as investigators continue to seek justice for the young father whose life was taken too soon.
