On December 14, 2024, at approximately 12:25 p.m., Birmingham police officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 600 block of Cotton Avenue Southwest. Upon arrival at the West End Walking Trail, located at 633 Cotton Avenue Southwest, they discovered 48-year-old Birmingham resident Randolph Taylor Jr. lying unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
