On October 30, 2024, at approximately 6:00 p.m., 38-year-old Melvin Anthony Burkes was fatally shot in Birmingham, Alabama's West End community. The incident occurred in the 1700 block of Pearson Avenue Southwest, where Burkes and another individual were involved in an argument with a third man. The confrontation escalated, leading the suspect to open fire, striking both Burkes and the other man.
