On March 23, 2019, 30-year-old Anthony Tolbert of Graysville, Alabama, was fatally shot in Birmingham's Smithfield community. The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. near the intersection of Rev. Abraham Woods Jr. Boulevard and 1st Street North. Tolbert was standing in a mobile car wash area with several others when an unknown assailant fired into the group.
