On a warm evening in Hammond, Indiana, on June 29, 2015, 16-year-old Lauren Calvillo was on the front porch of her home with family, including younger cousins and neighborhood children. What began as a peaceful night was shattered by the sound of gunfire. In a heroic act, Lauren pushed the children to safety, shielding them from the spray of bullets, but in doing so, was struck and killed.
