On the morning of March 19, 2023, a shooting at the Talladega Downs Apartments in Talladega, Alabama, claimed the life of 23-year-old Djuante Nyjuwan Dickey. The violent incident also resulted in the death of 22-year-old Montrelle Dontae Johnson and left a third individual, Adrien Swain, in critical condition. Dickey was a male.
The shooting occurred around 3:00 a.m. during a large gathering in the parking lot of the apartment complex.
Upon their arrival, Talladega Police officers discovered multiple victims with gunshot wounds. Dickey and Johnson were transported to a local hospital where they succumbed to their injuries. Adrien Swain was also hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
Within hours of the tragic event, authorities apprehended a suspect. Dennis Andre Swain, a 23-year-old from Alpine, Alabama, was taken into custody and subsequently charged with murder. While police have not specified the relationship between the suspect and the critically injured victim who shares the same last name, they have indicated that all parties involved were acquainted. The investigation into the shooting remains active, with the possibility of additional arrests.
