On September 20, 2020, 59-year-old Melvin Earl Nelson was fatally shot in east Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred in the 300 block of 74th Street North, where officers responded to reports of a shooting and discovered Nelson suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
