On July 22, 2022, 23-year-old Reed Anderson Rigsby, a male, was found deceased in Birmingham, Alabama. His death is being investigated by the Birmingham Police Department as a homicide.
Officers from the South Precinct were dispatched to a residence in the 4500 block of Sixth Avenue South around 2:40 p.m. following a report of a person down. Upon arrival, they discovered Rigsby unresponsive inside the home, which was later identified as an Airbnb property.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. An autopsy later confirmed that Rigsby had been fatally shot.
At the time of his death, Rigsby was living in Munford and working for a packaging company. He had previously been a student at Auburn University. Investigators and his family have publicly stated they do not know why he was at the Airbnb in Birmingham, which is about an hour's drive from his home.
The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in the case. It does not appear that anything was stolen from the property, though his family has noted that a distinctive Egyptian cartouche necklace with his father's name, 'Randall,' in hieroglyphs has not been found. Both law enforcement and Rigsby's family have appealed to the public for any information regarding the case. Crime Stoppers has offered a reward of up to $20,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
