It was just after 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2025, when the sound of multiple gunshots shattered the night, triggering the city's Shot Spotter system. When police arrived at the 1100 block, they discovered Clark unresponsive inside the vehicle.
Despite the efforts of Birmingham Fire and Rescue, he was pronounced dead at the scene from what the Jefferson County Coroner's Office would later confirm were gunshot wounds.
Known in the local music scene as the rapper PaperChaser Zay, Clark had just released a new song titled 'Jezzy Flow' only two days before his life was cut short. A father and recently married, his sudden death sent shockwaves through his community, drawing a large crowd of family and friends to the tragic scene. Investigators noted that a significant number of shots were fired, describing it as being in the double digits, suggesting a barrage of gunfire.
