On the evening of September 9, 2022, at approximately 9:21 PM, Birmingham Police Department officers responded to reports of a person lying on the ground bleeding in the 1200 block of 12th Avenue North. Upon arrival, they discovered 44-year-old Courtney Demond Hughley of Fairfield, Alabama, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel transported Hughley to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.
