In the early morning hours of a Sunday in Birmingham, Alabama, a dispute within the walls of a home in the Ensley neighborhood turned fatal, claiming the life of 35-year-old Kenneth Dewayne Maddox Jr. On October 9, 2022, what began as an argument escalated tragically, ending with Maddox suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officers from the West Precinct were dispatched to the residence in the 2800 block of Avenue J shortly before 6 a.m. following a report of a person shot.
Upon their arrival, they found Maddox unresponsive inside the house. Despite the immediate response from Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service, his life could not be saved, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation by Birmingham police suggested that the shooting was the culmination of a domestic argument.
