On the night of September 21, 2024, a mass shooting occurred in Birmingham, Alabama's Five Points South entertainment district, resulting in the death of 27-year-old Carlos McCain. The incident took place just after 11 p.m. outside Hush, a hookah and cigar lounge on Magnolia Avenue South.
