On January 9, 2024, 24-year-old Jaqoin Carpenter was shot while inside his vehicle at the intersection of 5th Avenue North and Oporto Madrid Boulevard North in Birmingham, Alabama. At approximately 1:15 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert at 7701 5th Avenue North. Upon arrival, they found Carpenter unresponsive inside a van, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries and succumbed to his injuries on January 11, 2024
