On August 12, 2024, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a report of a person shot at the Anchor Motel, located at 8419 1st Avenue North in the East Lake neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama. Upon arrival, they discovered 45-year-old James Edward White lying unresponsive in the motel's parking lot, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
