Thompson, a father who had a love for sports and the outdoors, had been struggling with heroin addiction and was periodically living on the streets.
The events leading to his death began with a confrontation involving individuals in two vehicles, a silver Kia and a black
Nissan. According to investigators, Thompson was walking away from the confrontation when someone in the black Nissan opened fire, striking him multiple times in the back. When Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene, they found Thompson lying on his stomach with several gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the years following the shooting, Jeremy Thompson's case has remained unsolved. Authorities have not publicly named any persons of interest, and no arrests have been made in connection with his murder.
