In the early evening of a spring day in East Jefferson County, a verbal disagreement between two men escalated into a physical fight that ultimately claimed the life of DeAndre Montray Hollice. The 31-year-old man was shot during the altercation, which occurred on Town and Country Circle.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene at approximately 7:00 PM. Upon arrival, Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies found Hollice suffering from a single gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported by ambulance to UAB Hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was later pronounced deceased.
The individual involved in the altercation with Hollice, 21-year-old Eslam Mohamed Zaki, remained at the location and was the one who contacted emergency services by calling 911. Following an initial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, Zaki was taken into custody by law enforcement.
Subsequently, Eslam Mohamed Zaki was arrested and placed in the Jefferson County Jail in Birmingham. He has been formally charged with murder in connection with the death of DeAndre Montray Hollice. Authorities have stated that Zaki is being held without bond as the legal proceedings in the case commence.
