On July 24, 2008, in Birmingham, Alabama, 34-year-old Elizabeth McFarland Witherspoon was tragically killed alongside her husband, Derrick Antonio Witherspoon Sr., and her two sons, Jerome McFarland, 13, and Justin R. McFarland, 11. The family was found shot to death in their home, which had been set on fire in an apparent attempt to conceal the crime.
