In the summer of 2008, a horrific act of violence cut short the lives of a Birmingham, Alabama family. On July 24th, 34-year-old Elizabeth McFarland Witherspoon, her husband Derrick Antonio Witherspoon Sr., and her two sons, 13-year-old Jerome McFarland and 11-year-old Justin R. McFarland, were found deceased in their home. The family had been shot to death, and in an attempt to hide the heinous crime, their house was set on fire.
