In the spring of 2022, the life of 45-year-old Teresa Denise Coleman, a Black female from Birmingham, Alabama, was tragically cut short. On Saturday, May 7, 2022, Coleman was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the 1800 block of Bessemer Road. The discovery was made in the early hours of the morning, just before 1 a.m.
Birmingham police and fire medics were dispatched to the scene where they found Coleman unresponsive. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at the location.
Her death was one of several violent incidents that occurred in the Birmingham and Bessemer areas over that weekend. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later officially identified her as the victim.

Stephone Danie Byrd, a 19-year-old, was charged with capital murder in connection with the shooting death of Teresa Denise Coleman.
