On April 18, 2023, the Birmingham Police Department responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle in the 8400 block of 5th Avenue North. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of 31-year-old Ariel Cae Jones inside a blue four-door sedan. The vehicle had reportedly been in the field for at least a day. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced Jones deceased. Preliminary investigations indicated foul play, leading authorities to classify the case as a homicide.
