In the early hours of December 22, 2022, the Birmingham Police Department responded to a ShotSpotter alert indicating multiple gunshots in the 2500 block of 24th Street Ensley. Upon arrival, officers discovered a red Pontiac Vibe idling at the edge of a driveway. Inside the vehicle, 43-year-old Shundra Denise McCray was found unresponsive, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced her deceased at the scene.
