In the spring of 2021, a burst of violence at an East Birmingham gas station tragically cut short the life of Sheila Chantel Johnson. On the evening of May 12, gunfire erupted at a Shell on 1st Avenue North, leaving three people wounded. Among them was 27-year-old Sheila, who sustained life-threatening injuries. She was rushed to UAB Hospital, where she fought for her life for several weeks.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, Sheila Chantel Johnson succumbed to her injuries on June
12, 2021. Her passing prompted the Birmingham Police Department to launch a homicide investigation into the shooting. Johnson was the sole fatality from the incident.
In the aftermath of her death, investigators sought to piece together the events of that tragic night. Authorities reported that the motive for the shooting remained unclear, and they had not identified any suspects in the case. The Birmingham Police Department has urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward to assist in their ongoing investigation.
