On May 22, 2021, at approximately 9:30 p.m., 27-year-old Sheila Chantel Johnson was traveling with her three children—ages 2, 5, and 6—along 1st Avenue North in Birmingham, Alabama. During the journey, an individual initiated a road rage incident, resulting in gunfire that struck Johnson twice in the head and injured her 5-year-old son in the arm and foot.
