On April 4, 1977, Jody Suzanne Ford, a 41-year-old transgender woman and owner of Ms. Sid's Coiffures in Birmingham's Five Points South, was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Vestavia Motor Lodge in Vestavia Hills, Alabama.
