Franquita Cunningham, a 49-year-old Black woman from Birmingham, Alabama, was spending the early hours of Halloween night, 2014, inside a residence in the 100 block of 5th Avenue Southwest when violence outside found its way through the walls. She was in a back bedroom with a friend, settled on a bed with the television on, when the crack of gunfire erupted outdoors.
