On October 31, 2014, 49-year-old Franquita Cunningham was inside a residence on the 100 block of 5th Avenue Southwest in Birmingham, Alabama, when she was struck by a bullet that penetrated the bedroom door from outside. At the time, Cunningham was sitting on a bed with a friend, watching television, when they heard gunshots from outside the house.
