On September 20, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers from the Birmingham Police Department responded to a welfare check at the Hillside apartment complex, located at 1521 17th Street South. Upon entering an apartment, they discovered 27-year-old Maria Juan unresponsive. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
