On a summer night in Birmingham, Alabama, the life of 21-year-old Lykeria Briana Taylor was tragically cut short. In the early hours of June 13, 2021, Taylor was a passenger in a vehicle, riding with her boyfriend after they had just departed from a local nightclub. As they traveled near the intersection of Warrior Road and Avenue V, an unknown vehicle pulled up beside them.
Gunfire erupted from the other car, shattering the night and striking both Taylor and her companion.
Both were rushed to UAB Hospital, where Taylor fought for her life. Sadly, her injuries proved too severe, and she passed away the following day, June 14, 2021. Her boyfriend, who was also shot during the attack, survived the ordeal. The preliminary investigation suggested that the shooting was a targeted attack, though a motive was not immediately clear. The vehicle carrying the assailant or assailants fled the scene, disappearing into the night.
In the months that followed, the Birmingham Police Department issued pleas to the public for any information that could lead to the capture of those responsible for Lykeria Taylor's death.
