In the quiet hours of a December morning in Birmingham, Alabama, 12-year-old Audriana Pearson was asleep in her home. It was just four days before Christmas in 2022, a time filled with the promise of holiday joy. But the peace of that night was shattered by a sudden and violent intrusion. A vehicle sped past her residence, unleashing a barrage of at least 17 bullets into the house. One of these bullets struck and tragically ended Audriana's life as she slept.
A seventh-grade student at Erwin Middle School, she was remembered by her principal as a bright and well-liked young lady with a promising future.
The Birmingham Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the drive-by shooting. Their efforts, aided by the department's real-time crime center, led to the identification of a suspect vehicle. A police pursuit ensued, spanning several miles before the vehicle was stopped. Three individuals were taken into custody for questioning. Following the initial investigation, two of the individuals were identified as the primary suspects in the senseless killing of the young girl.
The two suspects were identified as 19-year-old Ja'Von Eric Wilson and 18-year-old Jarei Lamar Vance, both from Birmingham. Murder warrants were issued, and both men were charged with capital murder in connection with Audriana Pearson's death. Wilson faced an additional charge of first-degree receiving stolen property. They were subsequently booked into the Jefferson County Jail and held without bond. The third person of interest who was initially taken into custody was later released.
