In the fall of 2015, the life of 26-year-old Shundria Latrice Peoples was tragically cut short in Birmingham, Alabama. On October 23rd, she and a companion, 34-year-old Kenneth Davidson, were discovered in a car, both having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. Emergency responders pronounced them dead at the scene in the early morning hours.
The investigation into the double homicide led police to a suspect who was just 15 years old at the time of the killings.
Khalief Marquise Spencer was arrested and subsequently charged with capital murder in connection with the deaths of Peoples and Davidson. His alleged involvement in these brutal slayings sent a shockwave through the community, given his young age. Spencer was also implicated in a third homicide that occurred a few weeks later, further adding to the gravity of the case against him.
In October 2019, at the age of 19, Khalief Marquise Spencer stood before the court to answer for the crimes he committed as a teenager. He chose to accept a plea deal, pleading guilty to the intentional murders of Shundria Latrice Peoples, Kenneth Davidson, and the third victim. In exchange for his guilty plea, the capital murder charges were dropped. The judge sentenced Spencer to 25 years in prison for the three lives he took. He will be eligible for parole after serving 18 years of his sentence.
