Gopi Krishna Podila, a renowned Indian-American biologist, tragically lost his life on February 12, 2010, in a mass shooting at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Podila, who was 52 years old at the time of his death, was the chairperson of the university's Department of Biological Sciences. He was one of three faculty members killed during a staff meeting by Amy Bishop, a fellow faculty member in the biology department.
