On September 16, 2018, 20-year-old Oakwood University student Carvell Goodlow was found deceased from a gunshot wound at the Westlake Apartments in Huntsville, Alabama. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Goodlow was pursuing higher education at Oakwood University, a historically black institution affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
