In the autumn of 2017, the life of a young Huntsville man was tragically cut short, sparking a homicide investigation that would lead to the apprehension of two suspects. James Lovell Jones Jr., a 26-year-old male, was fatally shot on October 28, 2017. The incident prompted an immediate response from the Huntsville Police Department, who began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to Jones's untimely death.

Jones Jr. moved forward, and authorities were able to identify two individuals believed to be responsible. Ke'Andre Martese Jones and Jaylan Pope Jagessar were pinpointed by investigators as the primary suspects in the case. This breakthrough led to warrants being issued for their arrests as the community mourned the loss of a young man.
Following the issuance of arrest warrants, a coordinated effort was launched to bring the two suspects into custody. On a Tuesday morning, the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, in collaboration with the Huntsville Police Department, successfully located and apprehended 20-year-old Ke'Andre Martese Jones at a residence on South Wellman Avenue. Later that same day, the second suspect, 21-year-old Jaylan Pope Jagessar, was also taken into custody, found at a home on Oakwood Avenue. Both men were subsequently charged with murder and booked into the Madison County Jail, each with a bond set at $60,000. The arrests brought a sense of resolution to the initial phase of the investigation, though the legal process was just beginning.
