On a winter day in 2014, in the quiet Mount Vernon community on Lookout Mountain in DeKalb County, Alabama, 65-year-old Michael Lynn Jenkins was killed. His life came to a sudden and violent end on January 29th, a Wednesday that would be marked by a call to 911 from a residence, reporting that a person had been shot. When authorities arrived at the scene, they found Jenkins, who had been fatally wounded.
