In the winter of 2014, in Birmingham, Alabama, a violent act shattered the life of Walter Cook, a 42-year-old Black man. On a day in early December, Cook was on College Avenue when he was struck by gunfire. The reasons for the shooting and the circumstances that led to it remain shrouded in mystery. For nine days, he fought for his life, a testament to his will to survive.
