On March 22, 2023, at approximately 2:10 a.m., Birmingham police officers responded to a report of a person shot in the 3600 block of Hemlock Avenue SW. Upon arrival, they discovered 44-year-old Fredrick Carnell Sykes unresponsive inside his residence. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him dead at the scene at 2:34 a.m.
