On May 6, 2009, 21-year-old Cory Deonta Cox was fatally shot in the Southtown housing community of Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred in a courtyard on the 2300 block of 9th Avenue South, where Cox attempted to mediate a violent altercation between two brothers, who were his neighbors.
