On a Saturday evening in Birmingham, Alabama, the life of Paul Everett Jordan, a 59-year-old Caucasian male, was tragically cut short. On November 12, 2022, Jordan was driving his Dodge Dakota pickup truck in the Roebuck neighborhood, a familiar part of the city. As he attempted to make a left turn into a gas station on the 9000 block of Parkway East, a devastating collision occurred.
A Dodge Challenger, traveling at a high rate of speed, slammed into Jordan's truck.
The force of the impact was immense, sending the pickup careening into a drainage culvert. The wreckage of Jordan's truck quickly became engulfed in flames. First responders arrived at the chaotic scene, but it was too late to save him; Paul Everett Jordan was pronounced dead at the location of the crash.
The subsequent investigation into the fiery crash pointed to reckless behavior on the part of the other driver. Authorities identified the driver of the Dodge Challenger as 22-year-old Carlos Maurice Caldwell of Center Point. Their investigation suggested that Caldwell had been speeding and was possibly engaged in illegal street racing at the time of the fatal collision.
Less than a month after the incident, on December 8, 2022, police arrested Carlos Maurice Caldwell. He was formally charged with reckless murder for his role in the death of Paul Everett Jordan. Following his arrest, Caldwell was booked into the Jefferson County Jail to await legal proceedings.
