On February 29, 2020, 46-year-old Bryan Edward Hooper was involved in a physical altercation at the intersection of 2nd Avenue North and 13th Street in Birmingham, Alabama's Fountain Heights neighborhood. During the confrontation, Hooper sustained injuries that led to his hospitalization at UAB Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on March 8, 2020.
