On April 1, 2019, at approximately 9:21 p.m., Birmingham Police officers responded to reports of multiple gunshot victims in the 1200 block of 12th Street North. Upon arrival, they discovered three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Among them was 22-year-old Durand Lamar Witherspoon, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two victims, including a juvenile, were transported to UAB Hospital for treatment; one sustained critical injuries.
