On the evening of May 10, 2021, the quiet of a Laurel, Maryland neighborhood was shattered by a violent intrusion that left a young family irrevocably broken. Ivania Margarita Lee, a 31-year-old female, was tragically killed in her home in the 200 block of Federalsburg South. Her husband, 31-year-old Ryan Scott Lee Sr., was also murdered in the brutal attack. The couple’s young son was critically injured in the shooting, while another young child in the home was able to escape unharmed with a witness.
The perpetrator was identified as 57-year-old Shawn Maurice Price. Price had been in a long-term relationship with Ryan Lee's mother, who was also living in the residence. The relationship had ended several months prior, and despite his attempts to reconcile, she had refused contact. On that tragic evening, Price drove to the Lee home, parked his vehicle away from the residence, and entered the house, calling out for his ex-girlfriend. When he did not find her, he opened fire, killing Ivania and Ryan Lee and severely wounding their child.
After the horrific assault, Shawn Maurice Price turned the gun on himself, ending his own life at the scene. When Anne Arundel County Police responded to reports of the shooting at approximately 9:29 p.m., they discovered Ryan Scott Lee Sr. deceased on a nearby sidewalk from apparent gunshot wounds. Inside the home, they found the bodies of his wife, Ivania Margarita Lee, and the suspect, Shawn Maurice Price. A handgun was located next to Price, and his injuries were consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The investigation that followed confirmed the incident as a targeted double homicide and attempted murder-suicide, stemming from Price's inability to accept the end of his relationship with the grandmother of the home. The tragedy left a community in mourning and a family devastated by the sudden and violent loss of two beloved parents. In the days following the incident, a candlelight vigil was held at a local elementary school to honor the memory of Ryan and Ivania Lee.
