On the morning of October 20, 2015, 28-year-old African American male Maurice Dukes was found shot to death inside his blue Ford Mustang at The Park at Wood Station Apartments in Birmingham, Alabama. Dukes was employed as a security guard at the complex and was on duty at the time of the shooting. The incident occurred around 7 a.m., and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities determined that the attack was targeted, not random, though the motive was not immediately disclosed.
