On the afternoon of Sunday, November 23, 2025, Birmingham police were called to the intersection of 17th Street Southwest and Laurel Avenue in the city’s Powderly neighborhood after a report of a person down in the roadway. Thomas Williams, a 64-year-old male whose race and ethnicity were not specified in public reports, was found unresponsive suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
