On a December evening in 2017, the life of 18-year-old Tyric Savion Toodle was cut short in the parking lot of a Hoover, Alabama apartment complex. An 18-year-old Black male, Toodle was a former student at Vestavia Hills High School and had also attended Spain Park, where he was once a promising football prospect. Despite his potential on the field, he had reportedly dropped out of school.
On the night of December 26th, Hoover police were called to the Elevation Hoover apartments on Little Valley Road around 7:15 p.m. to investigate reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Toodle wounded in the parking lot. He was pronounced dead at the scene just minutes later, at 7:24 p.m., having sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, investigators with the Hoover Police Department stated their belief that the incident was not a random act of violence. They suspected that Toodle likely knew his assailant or assailants. Authorities also indicated that those responsible for the shooting fled the apartment complex in a vehicle, though a description of the car was not released to the public. While the investigation into the death of Tyric Savion Toodle was launched promptly, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in the years since his death.
