In the spring of 2018, a wave of violence descended upon Birmingham, Alabama, claiming multiple lives in a short span. On Monday, April 2nd, this string of tragedies continued, cutting short the life of 24-year-old Demetrius Montez Smith. A Black male, Smith was a passenger in a vehicle, traveling through the city streets, when the sudden eruption of gunfire shattered the day's calm.
