On April 2, 2018, 24-year-old Demetrius Montez Smith was fatally shot in Birmingham, Alabama. Smith was a passenger in a vehicle traveling along the 4500 block of Grasselli Boulevard when an unknown assailant opened fire on the car. The driver immediately transported Smith to Princeton Hospital's emergency room, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
