On July 4, 2024, at approximately 2:20 p.m., 45-year-old Birmingham resident Dietrich Lamont Boone was fatally shot near the intersection of 25th Street North and 7th Avenue North. Responding officers discovered Boone's gray Chrysler 300 crashed into a utility pole; he was found nearby in a grassy field, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite being transported to UAB Hospital, Boone succumbed to his injuries.
