On June 21, 2024, at approximately 11:05 a.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to reports of multiple individuals shot at the Oak Tree Apartments in the 4400 block of 5th Avenue South. Upon arrival, they discovered three men in the parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds. Among them was 34-year-old Birmingham resident, Rufus Jermaine Brock, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
