On July 23, 2019, 27-year-old DeTerius Terrelle Matthews was fatally shot in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Interlaken Avenue in the Gate City neighborhood. Responding officers discovered Matthews suffering from gunshot wounds; he was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
