On May 1, 2018, the body of 21-year-old Darryl Thomas was discovered along a dirt road near the old Lipscomb dump in Birmingham, Alabama. He had been shot multiple times. Earlier that day, Thomas and another individual were reportedly kidnapped at gunpoint from a nearby apartment complex. The kidnappers forced them into a Chevrolet Avalanche, with additional suspects following in an Infiniti sedan. The second victim managed to escape during a stop at a traffic light and alerted authorities.
